Romantic Breaks in Guernsey

Guernsey has a history of romance with author Victor Hugo making the island his home for fifteen years along with his wife and mistress and Renoir, the celebrated impressionist painter of beauty and feminine sensuality, spending the summer of 1883 painting Moulin Huet Bay. Both fell in love with the dramatic south coast cliffs and secluded bays.

As well as the spectacular south coast, Guernsey has magnificent sunsets along the west coast. The island is full of beautiful beaches, quaint fishing coves and picturesque countryside. There are also a number of excellent restaurants and a great choice of luxury hotels and spa breaks.

The perfect accommodation

Get away from it all

Guernsey makes for an ideal romantic weekend break as it’s a small island. Perfect for walks, discover the spectacular views from the south, explore Lihou Island (joined by a causeway) or opt for one of the inland walks. In season you can discover the orchid fields towards the west.

If shopping is on your agenda, St Peter Port’s cobbled streets will reveal high street shops and unusual boutiques. Stop in town for the evening for a bite to eat – you won’t be disappointed.

Why not walk in the footsteps of Victor Hugo or Renoir? Guided walks are available throughout the year. Climb up to Victoria Tower and you might find Hugo’s initials carved into the wall alongside those of his mistress, Juliette Drouet.

If you’d like a longer holiday then there’s plenty more to discover. The island has many attractions and there’s always
island hopping to consider. There are regular sailings to Herm each day and Sark and Alderney are easily reached by boat.
