The Channel Islands Heritage Festival 2015

Small Islands, big history!

The Channel Islands may be small but they have a big history! Neolithic burial mounds, ancient chambers and cave inscriptions have been found, dating human inhabitants back to prehistoric times. Roman coin hoards, medieval castles and many military defences dating back to Napoleon’s time as well as ones from World War I and II show how desirable the islands were and make for a fascinating visit.

Guernsey Heritage Festival

In celebration of its history, Guernsey has held exciting heritage festivals each year but for 2015 Visit Guernsey has teamed up with Jersey Tourism for a five week pan island Channel Islands Heritage Festival from 3 April – 11 May.

An exciting programme of events

During the festival, a series of events will be held in Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm with heritage attractions throwing open their doors to re-enactments and historical fun. Find out what life was like in wartime Guernsey at Guernsey’s Castle Cornet or island hop over to Jersey and visit The Jersey War Tunnels.

Liberation Day 70th Anniversary

The festival has been planned to coincide with the 70th Liberation Anniversary in the Channel Islands, with Liberation Day in Guernsey and Jersey falling on 9th May, Sark on 10th May and Alderney on 16th May.
