First Time in Guernsey

BARB-large

Just an hour from Stansted!

On Saturday 11th April 2015 I took my mum away to Guernsey for her first time on the island and she loved it! We caught out flight from Stansted which only took around an hour to get to Guernsey before our transfers arrived at the airport to take us to our first hotel La Barbarie for 2 nights. The La Barbarie is one of my personal favourites due to the homely feeling you get as you walk into hotel, we were greeted by staff at the reception and checked in midday.

I would recommend for everyone to go to the La Barbarie for dinner; the food was incredible. They seem to focus on fish dishes which were ideal for me but my mum doesn’t eat fish but there was plenty on the menu for her to choose from. I had the Monkfish with champagne sauce with vegetables, I couldn’t have chosen a tastier dish to have either, it was beautiful!

After settling into our room and unpacking slightly we then decided to catch a bus into St Peter Port to go a have a nice stroll along the front. We were very fortunate with the weather and didn’t have a bad day there! We found the bus services ideal so we used them rather than booking a taxi and with prices at only £1 per route you travel you can’t go wrong.

We took the bus into St Saviour to go a visit the Little Chapel which has been something my mum has always wanted to see since hearing stories about it growing up. Heading back to the hotel Peninsula where we stayed for the last 2 nights of our visit we stopped into St Sampson to have a look in Guernsey Candles Shop to which I was amazed with the crazy designs you can do with candles!

PENI-large

The Peninsula Hotel has just been refurbished and it showed; I’ve been in the hotel before for dinner on a
previous stay in Guernsey and couldn’t believe how much everything had changed. We also had dinner at the Peninsula which was very good, we didn’t have to wait long at all for our food to be cooked, we had the bar menu which seemed the better option for myself and my mother as we liked the sound of having the Classic Lasagne, Spaghetti Bolognese and Chilli Con Carne.

We couldn’t fault either hotel with cleanliness, politeness and food we had an amazing stay in Guernsey and now were looking forward to visiting the island of Jersey in September.
